How we all met

It was the first day of High School-an all girls school. The one where you have to wear a uniform and the skirt had to be below the knee. Well, the first day you were allowed to come in street clothes(everyday dress). Remeber when Madonna came on the scene wearing Neon colors -I thought that was cool. So, the first day of school I walked in with neon pink and yellow socks, neon tank top with a neon sweatshirt that slightly fell off of my shoulder. I looked so cool-so I thought.
I remember the first person I met was Barbara Kristin. She will tell you the story better than I but it went a little something like this. She was sitting down at a table and saw me walk in. She thought to herself, PLEASE don't let that girl (freak I believe was the word she used) sit next to me. I think she pleaded several times-guess what, I sat down right next to her. After she got over the shock of me sitting near her and the crazy neon blinding outfit I was wearing, it was pretty clear we were going to be friends.
The next Barbara I met was Tammy. I remember she & I were in the same class, sitting next to me and she was trying to hurry up and do some kind of homework-I thought she was funny and outragiouos-soon we became friends.
As the weeks went on, we all sort of starting meeting one another and began aour group -now known as the Barbara's.

Who are the Barbara's?

Well, I am the first of the Barbara's (aka Suz). There is Barbara Tammy, Barbara Kristin, Barbara Mary M., Barbara Mary Jo, Barbara Carla, Barbara Kelly, Barbara Lori, Barbara Cindy and Barbara Mary H.
Some of the Barbara's have daughters and we call them little Barbara's. They totally did not get it at first, but are all pretty much on board with it now.
Hey,whenever a Barbara calls another Barbara, the kids have to know whose calling. You can hear them yell, " Hey Mom, Barbara is on the phone". That's when we knew they got it.
The funny part is that even the husbands refer to all of us as the Barbara's and oftern call us by the name.

How it all Started

First, I guess I should tell you how we all got our names-Barbara.
I, Barbara, was watching an old skit on Saturday Night Live with Mike Myers.
He portayed a character named Linda Richmond (whom I hear was modeled after his real life mother in law).
Linda loved Barbara Streisand and spoke with a New York/Jewish accent(Ya, know what I'm talking about).
I would watch these skits over and over, each one would make me laugh harder than the first.
I feel in love with Barbara, too. So much that I started talking like I was Linda Richmond around school and calling all of my dear friends Barbara.
The name stuck and 26 years later we still are calling each other " Barbara".

Welcome

Welcome...This is a diary of some sort of all the mischievious adventures, fun times, sad stories, funny stories and a long loving relationship between 10 high school girlfiends. I will share with you as many adventures as my mind allows me to remember as we have grown up together, now with families of our own.
I hope you enjoy the memories I will share of the Barbara's as much as I will enjoy remembering them.
